Chantal Umuhoza

Executive Director | Founder

Chantal is a Pan-Africanist and Rwandan Feminist activist who holds a Master of Arts in Human Rights, Gender and Conflict Studies from the International Institute of social and a bachelor’s degree in Economics.

She has over 20 years’ experience working with different civil society organizations, private sector, UN and international organizations and Government institutions at different atlevels with expertise in sexual and reproductive justice, economic justice, feminist leadership, movement building, knowledge production, policy design, implementation and advocacy.

Her work at regional includes critical analysis and policy influence at African Union processes including as a member of the AU youth advisory Board, advisory services at AU gender department and as a member of the continental network of African women mediators (FEMWISE) in the peace and security department.At global levels, she has worked, followed and contributed to policy spaces at the UN Commission on Population and Development, UN Commission on the status of women and UN Human Rights Council. She is engaged with Sustainable development Goals processes at national level, regional and global levels. She has recently contributed to UN Women’s Generation Equality processes at global level.

Chantal co-leads and steers Tanga community by SPECTRA, a Rwandan social enterprise, as a feminist leadership and co creation initiative Rwandan initiative grounded in Pan African feminists’ principles and values that aims at steering diverse women, girls and young people’s actions for realization of comprehensive bodily autonomy and a dignified life.
